Advent of Code

This Blog Post was originally published on the platform "writelier" (formerly "co-writers" and "200wordsaday"). Sadly the blogging platform was discontinued. I downloaded all my blog posts and prepared them to be republish them here.

The year is coming to an end again. People start writing their resumes and new year's resolutions.

A few years back a coworker discovered adventofcode.com.

Every day you get to solve a new coding puzzle. The story around it also is always great to follow along. This year, for example, Santa got missing on his mission while delivering packages along the universe.

It is the coder's mission to find him solving the mentioned puzzles. Every day they get harder. In the past, I was only able to complete through day four or five.

The great thing about is that there is no programming language you need to use. The only important thing that is necessary is to calculate the solution of the puzzle correctly.

I saw a post on Reddit where someone was solving the puzzle with Microsoft's Excel. If I remember correctly he or she was only using built-in functions of it.

So if you're a programmer yourself and look for a challenge in December, maybe it is time to try out Advent of Code.

My solutions can be found on Github. I plan to solve all years and challenges some time in the future, but I think that will take a while.
