Paramedic Sabbatical

If you read yesterday’s post, you know my to-do list quite increased since owning a home. Not too unexpected if I’m honest. And so I only managed to get the required 144 hours of paramedic duties into my file this year.
So, I was thinking for the last few months, if I shouldn’t take a year off being a paramedic. I’m doing this voluntary for 10 years now and although being on duty still brings a lot of joy. But knowing “next weekend I’ll do another shift”, brought up some irritations or annoyances you could say.
I’m just not really looking forward to a duty anymore. I enjoyed it when I was there, but the days beforehand almost brought up an annoyance. Yesterday I talked to the district person that is responsible for me, and we agreed that I’ll take some time off next year.
Sure, I’ll still have to do the required training hours next year, but at least I’ve got “two more weekends” per month when I don’t have to think about doing a paramedic duty.
I can also switch to active participant anytime if I’d like to, so if I miss the duties, I can jump right back in. But I feel like doing a longer break might be worthwhile. We’ll see how it goes. Circumstances change, and maybe it is time to move on.
