Locked Out

Yesterday I managed to lock me out of my apartment for the first time in my life. I did have my wallet, mobile and even keys in my pocket, but I couldn’t open the door again.

The thing is, I got a “Nuki” door opening system installed. I forgot to change the batteries and as I wanted to lock the door via the app, it said out of power.

The Nuki operates the key inside the lock which makes it really easy to install and use. But that has a downside, if you’ve got a door lock that can only have one key at a time in it, you can’t open it until the key on the other side is removed.

And that is what happened to me yesterday. I couldn’t get the key in from the other side and so I was locked out. Luckily I could call a locksmith service from nearby and it didn’t cost nearly as much as I expected.

The locksmith also installed a new lock where I can put in keys from both sides without blocking.

And that’s the story of another mistake I could have avoided, but I’ve wanted to replace the lock anyway and now it is done.
