Microsoft Windows...

I hate you!

I know, this post could end here, but let me explain a little bit.

Yesterday I was doing Windows 10 Updates at a Customers Office. Three out of four PC did it without any complaints.

The fourth broke down in the middle of it. So I thought, maybe I just need to do some little repair here and there and it will work again. Nope, it doesn’t.

It turned out the HDD (yes, no SSD yet) had some serious SMART error. Though I’m not sure if that was there before the Windows update anyway.

After half of today, I found out that it seems only the boot sector on the drive was corrupted. I create an image of the system and restored it on a new drive.

Surprise it didn’t work. The other half of the day I was trying to fix the boot sector and rewrite it. It turned out that also the Windows Image itself is corrupted because it stopped mid-way.

After more than eight hours now, I’m giving up. I’m currently reinstalling Windows.

On the other side, I got the customer to look at my offer to change the computers anyway. We’ll see how that works out. Maybe I can also get them to finally buy a Windows Server Licence, so I could roll out the updates through that and not downloading it separately on every computer.
