Meeting primary school colleagues

Yesterday I was invited to a meetup of primary school colleagues. Since one of them died recently, another one used the platform to invite to a get-together.

He planned to have a small party at his own lake, but the weather didn’t quite fit this week, so we met at a tabular tavern nearby. Although none of my colleges is living far away, only a handful showed up.

The last time we saw each other was four years ago. Facebook really knows everything. In these four years many things have changed.

I have to admit that I’m not looking back with a smile on my face when I’m thinking about primary school. Although I wasn’t extremely bullied, it definitely left some scars. And I’m not yet in the mood to forgive everybody.

After some teething troubles on what to talk about. A little bit later everybody was talking about what they have been up to in the last four years.

Interestingly for me, it looks like everybody finally grew up. Many of the bullies turned out to be good guys now. Many suppressed the time at primary school. Although I’m not sure if the really forgot about the bad stuff they did, or they just don’t want to remember.

Another interesting fact I didn’t expect was that almost every other woman has at least one child by now. Not always with a partner.

Others managed to be in management positions and others changed their job so often, I couldn’t even count it.

I really enjoyed the whole evening and stayed until 1:45 am. I was really tired.

Before I drove there, I was thinking about ditching the meeting, but looking back now, it was definitely the better decision to leave the past behind and enjoy an evening with memories and people I’ve spent four years together.
