Diving into VR - Day 5 - Workout

It has been a few weeks since I bought an Oculus Quest. Although I come home exhausted from work every day, I’m still putting the headset on almost every day.

Currently, my favourite games are Beat Saber and Pistol Whip. Both games are “rhythm” games.

In Beat Saber, you got two (or if you want one) lightsaber and have to cut through blocks. The blocks fly towards you along with the beat of the music. So you have to time the hit. You also have to cut in a certain direction, shown through an arrow on the block.

Sadly there aren’t a bunch of different songs. Most of the time I am playing three of the 5 Green Day songs (a paid DLC) or one of the Imagine Dragons sons (also paid). There are a bunch of built-in songs, but they feel a little bit too electronically for me. :)

Pistol Whip builds an experience like you are John Wick. Your character moves constantly forward while you’re shooting at enemies and hiding from their bullets with some Matrix battle moves. There is also a set amount of songs you can play.

Although most of the time I’m only moving my upper body and occasionally crouching in Pistol Whip or leaning in Beat Saber (to prevent obstacles), I really start to sweat heavily after just a few minutes.

After an hour play session, I always have to take a shower. :)

I know it isn’t as good as working out at the gym, or with a personal trainer, but it’s better than nothing and really fun.
