Presenting
A little more than a year ago the company I work at started “Dev Meetups”. Every other week one developer needs to hold a technical presentation. Being their is required unless you’ve got a customer appointment or some really important work.
There is no excuse to not presenting, though there is a workaround. You could ask another coworker if he or she would do the presentation for you. As far as I know, nobody used that method yet.
Normally all developers would meet in the large meeting room in the basement. Since the room was converted to more offices and the Coronavirus the meetings are held online from now on.
I was the first one to present after the three-month break. Obviously I was really nervous, although the fact that I was only showing my slides helped. I never had a problem speaking in public, but the less you do it, the worse it gets.
I know I got a youtube channel with more than 1000 videos, but speaking directly to people that can respond makes a huge difference than talking to oneself.
Besides the strange feeling at the beginning, I knew immediately I was talking way to fast. I don’t know why, but the sentences were just rushing out.
Maybe I should practice public speaking more?
