Visiting

After my typical morning coffee on Saturday, I set down to read a little bit. Since I have to do a presentation on Tuesday, I did some research and started to prepare some slides.

Then a thought hit my mind. I told my mother that I might be visiting her parents (my grandparents) this weekend. A bit of forth and back I decided I will drive to them.

Luckily they live only about one and a half hours away from my place. I really enjoy the smallness of the Austrian state sometimes. :)

I arrived there just after lunch. My grandmother was really surprised and happy.

After the typical catching up on lives, I got into the basement with my grandfather. Since they changed the ownership of the place to my mother (both of my grandparents are in their 80s. It is easier to handle the inheritance as long as they are alive), I wanted to get an accurate map of the house.

Although there is a plan from more than 60 years ago, it lacks the living room and some other changes they made over the years. He explained to me how he and my grandmother started with a capital of 15000 Schilling (the currency Austria had before the Euro, about 1100€) to build the house.

I asked a bunch of stuff about the building in general and how it was built. We later agreed that I would be coming back at the end of July to start to measure the whole place.

I’m already looking forward to it, as I’m going to spend a bunch of time with my first friend (my grandfather) again. Since he grew up at the end of the second world war, he has a bunch of stories to tell. Even though I heard some of them countless times, I can still listen to him for hours.
