Mechanical Keyboards
Today one of the two mechanical keyboards I ordered arrived. One for my workplace and one to code on my MacBook when I’m sitting inside my home office.
I have been using a mechanical keyboard at my main computer at home for ages. I really got used to the clicky sounds.
Last week I decided I should finally buy one for the coding sessions I’m doing on my MacBook. In the past, I’ve used an old Windows one. Although it worked, I was missing the tactile feedback.
After a coworker bought a cheap mechanical keyboard for work, I order myself the same one.
Since mechanical keyboards can be really loud, I ordered one with “Cherry-Brown” switches. Although they make a sound, it is way more silent then the clickiness of the “Cherry-Blue” I’m currently writing on.
I think if I didn’t have music on, my neighbours could hear me typing.
Interestingly, I am not sure why I’m enjoying typing on a mechanical keyboard more than on a “standard” one.
In contrast to “normal” keys, you need more pressure to type on mechanical keys. But with the direct click noise you know immediately when you clicked a key and you know when you clicked it, it was recognised.
There is also a bunch of rollover key protection, so every key is transmitted in the order you clicked it. Although I didn’t experience many wrong keys while typing on a “normal” keyboard, the typing on the mechanical one feels more direct.
It’s probably only imagination :)
