Mental hygiene
I talked to a coworker at the milestone party that our company held recently. Somehow we came to talk about mental hygiene, mental diseases and suicide.
Out of the blue, she contacted me a few days later if it would be possible to meet after work. Apparently the conversation we had didn’t leave her thoughts.
I always enjoy listening to people and understanding their problems, so I can help them.
So we met today at a cafe near our Apartments. After the obvious work-related small talk, she opened up.
It turned out she got a friend that might go through some mental instabilities, but she wasn’t sure and asked me how she could approach her friend best. She was also fascinated by the fact of how I can turn down emotions, if needed, for a paramedic mission.
We talked for almost three hours. I think I could help her, but I’m not sure. Since she is reading my posts here, I probably have to keep this one protected for now.
At least I hope she now understands that it isn’t easy to help mentally ill persons, but it can be done with effort. The first step is to get the person to accept help. It is interesting to see how hard it is for people to ask for help.
I also offered her that she can contact me anytime. I’m here to hear your problems. :)
