Diving into VR - Day 3 - VR is Dead
My father visited me. Since my parent’s printer is dead, he called me and asked if it would be ok if I could print some stuff out for him.
After I printed his stuff I asked him if he wanted to try my Virtual Reality headset. To me surprise, he agreed.
I quickly showed him the controllers and put on “First Contact”, the demo app that comes with the Oculus Quest. This demo application shows the basic principles of virtual reality, without too much movement of the player. So it is easy to get into it.
It wasn’t long and he danced with the virtual robot. He also managed to play with the table-tennis racket and the ball.
My mother took some pictures while watching him. We saw what my father saw through the built-in streaming feature of the Quest.
Afterwards, he told me he read VR was dead and asked where the cable of the headset was or if it was connected through Wifi to my PC. I told him that VR is just at the beginning and that the Oculus Quest doesn’t need a PC to run.
He was a little bit shocked about the price but quickly joked about buying one for himself. My mother just rolled with her eyes…
