Transcendence

A few years back I stumbled upon ”Transcendence”. Interestingly Johnny Depp was playing the main role.

I remember talking with a co-worker about the movie. I found it interesting to see a Johnny Depp in a serious role. I only knew him from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

I bought the movie on DVD and watched it a few days after the conversation with my co-worker.

I was blown away. Not only was it a good what could be movie, but Depp delivered a character I wasn’t expecting.

Both sides of the story that evolve throughout the movie feel really relatable. Is the upload of the mind that far away? There is a series on Amazon Prime I watched recently, ”UPLOAD”. It has a similar topic to Transcendence.

At what point will AI become a problem and do we face a future where something like Terminator might be possible? Will we be able to produce a computer that can feel? Will we identify the place of the soul inside the human body? Will we be able to ”upload” our identity and life forever?

Will our minds go crazy like in “Altered Carbon”? Or will we be extinct by then?
