Reworking my Budget
As I was doing some Accounting for my Freelance business today, I thought it might be time to finally read a blog post I saved long ago. I have been using YNAB (You need a Budget) for years now.
The thing is, the last half-year I found myself not sticking to it and more importantly not tracking everything I was spending. I stumbled upon their article about starting over in mid-January.
Today I decided to read it and more importantly follow it. I hit the “Make a Fresh Start” button and started. Normally a thing you would do on January the first, but as Brandon says regularly, every day can be January the first.
Now I am looking at a big red number again. It shows how much money I don’t have. My main bank account has a negative balance of about 2500 €, which isn’t a problem, as I got an overdraft limit of 3000 €, but I want it to go away.
With the budget set up for this month, I should have about 100€ left of my paycheck at the end of February. So, almost all of my money gets consumed currently.
100€ a month isn’t much if you think about it. But I hope that I budgeted more than I will be spending and that way I could save more.
I think it is definitely time to stick to my budget and more importantly to my income again. I really want to get those red numbers away. The more I can set aside each month, the easier it will be to buy a car in 2023 (when the leasing of the current ends) and when I can repay more of my Apartment credit, it will also be better on the long term.
It’s time to be serious about money again.
If you want, you can check out YNAB through this link, if you sign up later, we both get a month free of budgeting.
