Book Review: "Die Zerstörung der EU"

“Die Zerstörung der EU: Deutschland als Sprengmeister. Österreich als Mitläufer” by Peter Michael Lingens

Sometime last year I decided it was time to start informing myself about politics. I went to the elections regularly but always voted “out of my stomach”. When it comes to politics, I find it is important to be informed. So I started to seek out for books on that topic.

I came across the Weekly Newspaper “Falter”. They are based in Vienna and are more on the “left” or “social” side of politics. The largest Newspaper in Austria “die Krone” is more on the “right” and “national/conservative” side of the political spectrum.

I always found myself more on the “left” side of politics, so I ordered a test abonnement. I quickly discovered they are not only publishing the Newspaper but also publish books and got an online store with “left”-minded publications.

It didn’t take long until I ordered a batch of books there. I had already read the book from the Chief editor and publisher Armin Thurnher “Seinesgleichen geschieht”. But that will be part of another part of this series.

The book has 192 pages and was published in April 2019. So it is a pretty new one. It shows the view of the author on the European Union and how it is slippering into being destructed economically, mainly by Germany and it’s politics.

It is very well written and it was easy to follow along with the topic. I’m by no means an economics specialist and I always like, when complex topics are described in a way “normal” people can read it. Just like Stephen Hawking did it in his “A Brief History of Time” which I read in 2018.

Some of the research showed off in the book also included some graphics which made it way easier to understand. The author isn’t an economist by himself but relied on facts other know economists said. It was easy to find the facts with a little bit of help of a search engine.

Even though it is a well-researched book, it has some things I don’t clearly understand. I could be because I’m misinformed or because I just don’t understand it. With books like these, it is always important to also look at other peoples opinions. Only with broad information, someone can build his or her own opinion on the topic.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading it and also recommended it to other people I thought they might be interested in it. For me, it is a 4 out of 5.
