Re: The Golden Age of Podcasts
And again, it is Brandon, striking me with inspiration. Thanks!
I first heard about podcasts years ago. If I remember correctly, I tried to listen to them back then, but never really got into the “listening to podcasts” mood.
My way to school was about an hour drive with the bus, but I never really thought about doing stuff (even listening). In the mornings I was tired and in the evenings I was even more tired.
Later, my way to work was only about 15 minutes. When I moved to my first apartment and took the challenge to walk to work, I started to explore podcasts again.
Nowadays, I am mainly listening to them while I am in the gym or when I am walking to work. Also, I try to listen to them while I’m on a long drive. But that doesn’t work always, as co-drivers don’t share my podcast passion.
I’m using Pocket Casts since it showed up in the App store. I really like the feature that I can start listening on one device and continue on another without any hassle. It lets me also trim the silence parts automatically and I can adjust the playback speed. Sometimes the people talking are just to slow for me. :)
As with Brandon’s list, I don’t have a particular order:
Build Your SaaS - I only listened to the first two episodes but I want to listen through all of them as soon as I’ve got time.
Morning Call - A discontinued Podcast of a German Tech Journalist. I only have about a dozen more until the end.
The Fully Charged Show - I subscribed and the episodes are on my device, but I didn’t have time to listen to it. Hopefully in the near future. A coworker recommended it and it sounds really interesting.
Rettungsdienst.FM (Ambulance Service FM) - A podcast about the german ambulance service and EMT. Not all things are relatable to the Austrian system, but they got a bunch of interesting stories to tell.
The Pornhub Podcast - I know, sounds strange. But Asa Akira gives some interesting insights into the Porn-Universe and how the stuff works behind the scenes.
VoxCast A Warhammer 40k Podcast - I only listened to the first episode, but that one got me hooked.
Blaulichtgeflüster - Another paramedic podcast, I didn’t have time to listen to yet.
A great feature for a statistics guy like me are the listening statistics the app collects. Currently, I’ve listened for 2 days and 9 hours. I skipped about an hour worth of intros (also configurable per podcast inside the app), skipped 17 minutes and 30 seconds, removed 4 hours and 16 minutes of silence and saved 3 hours and 3 minutes due to upspeeding.
