The Professor - W.K.

Years ago, while I was at the technical college, I came across W.K. A teacher in his late forties or early fifties if I remember correctly. He taught operating system basics (how scheduling works, IO, Interrupts, …).

Later he also taught C#. But remarkably he was the one responsible for my three-month internship. Normally the students need to work out an internship on their own. I had good grades and sent out applications to a whole lot of companies.

Sadly it seems like no company would like someone for three months. I was offered one month here and there or two months at another company, but the college said it has to be one company. Many of my mates also struggled to get one.

The last way out was to work at the school and do janitor stuff, which wouldn’t have taught me anything.

As I was telling him my misery he offered me to work at the municipality where he was mayor. They didn’t pay me much, but this three months changed my life.

I had to commute about 3 hours a day and was reading like crazy. At the place I worked, I was the only “IT”-Guy. I was responsible to look over all the computers in the small municipality office. This was the time where I learned to work on my own.

So, like the other W.K. I know you probably will never read this, but: Thank you!
