My Country
I saw the weekly topic a few days ago. If I remember correctly I already wrote a bunch of times about Austria in the past. So why not write about it again?
I think everybody has already heard from Austria sometime in his or her educational career. Most of the time at least when the history lessons start to talk about the first and second World War, Austria normally has a very prominent role in it.
Since then an awful lot of time has passed and luckily we can say the past is past. But it won’t be forgotten.
Anyway. I really like the fact that I can drive to the capital of Austria within an hour or the fact that we are speaking so many dialects it gets confusing for outsiders.
I also really love that some of the greatest Hollywood export is a Styrian (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and before I forget, Christoph Walz is also an Austrian actor.
Not to mention a whole lot of inventions which just don’t come into my mind right now.
The only sad thing, in my opinion, is currently the move to the right of politics. When the FPÖ was elected a few years ago we were clearly moved into a right edge.
I don’t think I have to mention why that is a bad thing. We are a small little country with its small little problems. But we are here to stay. At least I hope so. :)
Because currently, Austria is one of the few countries where it is easy to get visas for other countries. “It’s just Austria, how could they hurt us?”
