Relatives

Yesterday I finished the book of a german emergency doctor where he describes the emergency operations that stayed in his mind. It is called “Viva La Reanimation”, I have read a sentence that sadly also happens very often in my “normal” paramedic life.

I won’t get into detail on the sentence itself. I am just going over the situation.

Sometimes we are called to really bad accidents, or really hefty heart attacks or strokes. Most of the time, the people having the problems aren’t alone.

There are family members or friends nearby, which try to help in such situations. Most of the time they are just a blink away of crying. No need to shame. It isn’t easy to see loved once suffer. And it is a strange situation.

Strangers come into your house and take over your loved one, they talk to each other and do things to your loved one you probably don’t understand. It is an extreme situation for everybody. The patient and the relatives.

Sadly, most of the time I don’t have the time to sit down with the relatives to declare what probably happened and what will going to happen in the next few hours until the Doctors in the hospital know whats going on.

I hate it, leaving friends and families in an unknown state. But, as long as a patients life is in danger, I don’t have the time to talk to them.
