Re: Crashing planes or saving children (Twitter fight)

I’ve read the post from @philh a while ago, sadly I always forgot I would like to write an answer. Well, now here it is.

The same concerns and opinions rose with Notre Dame after it burned down a little while back.

Large donations were made and even Macron (President of France) told that the church will be rebuilt completely.

If I remember correctly everywhere on social media where sh*tposts about why the money needed didn’t go to another charity instead of rebuilding a church.

People were talking about ending world hunger or other charitable stuff that could be realised with that money.

Of course, some small charities could be supported by that money, but to be sure, the money needed to rebuild Notre Dame isn’t near a sum that would be needed to end “real-world problems”. It’s just far too little.

That one donation sure would make a difference in a small place, but definitely not in the big picture. It was a one-time donation. It affects something ONE TIME and not more often.

“Thanks for your donation, now XY People can eat one meal. The rest of the 364 days of the year they’re still hungry”.

One time donations don’t make a difference, not on the big picture. Monthly recurring donations would be completely another thing.
