FREUD
This Blog Post was originally published on the platform "writelier" (formerly "co-writers" and "200wordsaday"). Sadly the blogging platform was discontinued. I downloaded all my blog posts and prepared them to be republish them here.
Yesterday evening, after an extended period of Vitamin D gaining and reading, I started watching FREUD. A new Netflix series about Sigmund Freud which was produced in cooperation with the ORF ("Österreichischer Rundfunk", which is the state radio and television program in Austria).
If I remember correctly Netflix was ordered by the European Union to create movies and tv shows in every country they were "broadcasting".
FREUD is the outcome they did in Austria. I only watched the first four episodes yesterday, but I will probably watch the last four today. So My review doesn't cover the whole Series. :)
If you don't know Sigmund Freud, be sure to give him a quick search on your favourite search engine.
Anyway, the series takes place in his younger years, where his thesis of the subconscious wasn't spread wide and most of the time other in his research sector laughed at him.
The series isn't a documentary by any means and has some really interesting mystery theme to it.
Also, I really enjoy that I know some of the actors from other "local" productions and that they are talking in the various Austrian dialects (mostly Viennese).
The only thing that bothers me is the "over Vienna shots" they did between some scenes. They look way to artificial. It looks like they took a shot over Prague (where most of the stuff was filmed as it still looks like Vienna back then) and placed the St. Stephen's Cathedral in the middle.
People not knowing Vienna probably don't notice it, but that and the artificial look put a little damper on my feels about this otherwise really great show.
I hope they get a second season.
