Content Recycling

This post was originally published on golifelog.com.

As you might know, I’ve been on YouTube for quite some time. I recently checked, and my first let’s play (Minecraft, obviously) dates back to 2012. Back then I recorded with my MacBook Pro and you can clearly hear it struggling throughout the episodes.

Anyway, many people seem to jump on the long from content train, as there are certain “bugs” in the YouTube algorithm that make long from quite profitable. The Spiffing Brit made an excellent video about it here: How I Broke YouTube - YouTube Is Perfectly Balanced With No Exploits.

Since I don’t have many of the original recordings of my lets plays, I started downloading them from YouTube again. There will be a significant quality loss through the several re-encodings, but I’m taking that. But I underestimated the cutting effort. Although I could simply put all the videos together without editing, I want to remove the intros and outros where possible.

Not that I’m making any money with YouTube, but if, for some reason, my subscribers explode, at least I’m ready to earn.
