Ambulance Safety Driving Training

Today I was at a training facility for driving safety. In Austria, everyone who wants to get the driving licence has to go through one of these trainings.

When I got my drivers licence in 2013, I was at one too. But today was different, the red cross offered to pay for such training for all active voluntary drivers.

Since I am an active volunteer, I was offered it and obviously took it today.

It started out with driving slalom downhill. Sounds easy, but the street was made wet and had a special topping that would make it like a large ice plate.

After that, we drove the same hill upwards. With our all-wheel vehicles not very difficult.

Then the really fun part started. The slinging plate. A hydraulic operated plate that would force your rear wheels out of position. After the first few turns, we got pretty good at handling this extreme situation and on applying countermeasures.

The sense of this half training day was to build awareness for our ambulance vehicles and all their problems.

After the training lunch was also paid. A fine gesture.

I brought my Garmin cam to the training. Hopefully, it recorded something good.
